Water stories from Room One

After our really hot days we got a few rainy days! Room One was asking "where does the water go?
so we found out about the water cycle. The Room One children were such good listeners and here are some of their understandings of the Water Cycle.

On Thursday morning I went to school and Mrs Smith read my story. We talked about it. I was proud of me. We talked about the Sun soaks some of the sea water and the water in the clouds gets bigger and bigger until the clouds burst with water. Some people have barrels ( to catch the rainwwtaer)

Once I went outside and I went to the ocean and I saw water evaporating and the water was going up and it went into the clouds and it got so full it started to spit and after it made puddles.
By Maia

Do you know that rain came from the ocean? I know it evaporates to a dark cloud.
By Rico

The water evaporates in the air and water evaporates into clouds.
By Alexandria

Did you know that the ocean evaporates into the sky because the sun is drying it up?
By Sam

I watch the water evaporates. It goes up into the sky. It makes water for us to drink. We can survive with no food but we can survive with water.

Room One on Art Deco Day

We learnt that the Napier earthquake on the 3rd February 1931 knocked down lots of buildings so when they were rebuilt they were all done in the same decorative style. Lots of people come from all over the world to see our beautiful buildings and we dress up to remember those days.
Check out how great we look all dressed up like in the Art Deco days.

Year 2!
Your child is now in Year 2.  We have two classrooms of Year 2 students.  Room 1 has 18 children and the teacher in Room 1 is Jane Smith.  Room 2 has 20 children and the teacher in Room 2 is Mrs Cornelius.  Room 1 also has a regular teacher aide to offer extra supervision for Cameron’s physical needs.
Blogs
We have a Year 2 blog.  This is a snapshot of some of the daily learning that is taking place in Rooms One and Two.  https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7589102742969327123#allposts.
Other snapshots of your child’s learning will come home in their Learning Journey’s.
Workshopping and Grouping
The children work in groups, according to stages and levels and their varying needs.  These needs often change throughout the Term/Year so groupings are flexible.  Your child may at times work with Mrs Cornelius, Mrs Smith or Mr Bryant for Reading, Writing, Maths and swimming.  Children will therefore also be working and interacting with the other children from the next door class.
Homework Expectations
Your child needs to regularly practice the essential Reading, Spelling and Maths skills.  Please ensure that you sign the BACK of the homework book to indicate that your child has completed this necessary practice each night.  On the occasional night that doing homework is difficult please spend 5 – 10 minutes reading TO your child as this models good language.  The homework book is also a good way to communicate any messages to have for the teachers as they are checked every day e.g Sue is going to be picked up at 10am to go to the dentist or Sue was really tired tonight so didn’t complete her homework.
Swimming
Swimming has started and is a curriculum subject like Maths and Reading so it is expected that we swim daily.  Please ensure that togs are brought to school EVERY morning.  Teachers will assess the weather at lunchtimes.  A note is required if for some reason your child can’t swim on a particular day.
Independence
INDEPENDENCE is a focus in Year 2.  As teachers we (with your support) hope to build your child’s ability to solve problems, self-manage, build confidence and take risks.  For example
·         Carry, park and unpack their own school bag.
·         Make an effort to find their own lost property.
·         Solve their own social problems in the playground by using the SMARTS.
·         Accept and respond to making mistakes.
And so becoming resilient CLIVE KIDS!
